3 Ways To Mark Love Your Lawyer Day

Love Your Lawyer Day falls on the first Friday in the month of November every year. Founded in 2001 by attorney and legal marketing expert, Nader Anise, this unique event has become a popular way of celebrating the work that legal professionals carry out on behalf of their clients and their communities.  

One of the main objectives of Love Your Lawyer Day is to counter the less-than-positive image many people can still have of attorneys. This year, Love Your Lawyer Day is celebrated on Friday 6 November and the occasion will be used by lawyers around the world to celebrate successes and widen community engagement. 

As such, absolutely no lawyer jokes are allowed on this special day!

Marking the moment 

As befits a legal professional, Nader Anise has used his legal and marketing expertise to protect the holiday’s name with relevant trademarks. At the time of writing there are four live (valid and pending) trademarks containing the mark text LOVE YOUR LAWYER, and all are found registered with the USPTO in service classes. The very first mark, LOVE YOUR LAWYER DAY, was registered at the end of August 2016 in Nice Class 35 (Advertising and Business).  

Continuing in the same vein, the other valid marks are ISN’T IT TIME YOU LEARNED TO LOVE YOUR LAWYER (Class 45 - Social and Legal Services) and LEARN TO LOVE YOUR LAWYER (Class 41 - Education and Entertainment), with LOVE YOUR LAWYER pending in Class 45. The top product description is: “Legal Services” found in Class 45.

Here are three great ways attorneys can make the most of Love Your Lawyer Day in 2020!

1. Donate your time 

This occasion affords an opportunity for attorneys to donate time through pro bono work and can provide volunteers with an opportunity to give back to local communities. 

If taking on pro bono work just isn’t feasible right now, there are other ways to make an impact. Volunteering in local neighborhoods is also an important initiative and can take many forms. What causes or charities are you most passionate about? Education? Soccer in the Streets? Housing? There are lots of organizations in your area looking for your help. 

2. Connect with happy clients and fellow professionals 

Happy clients 

Social proof can go a long way in today’s connected world. Why not take the opportunity to follow up today and connect with some of your clients? Take some time to personally phone or email some of your happy clients to ask if they would write a review for you about their experience at your firm on social networks like LinkedIn, Facebook or your Google Business page. This will build awareness of your business and could help to generate valuable leads for new clients.

Why not catch up with colleagues or law school contacts today? Building relationships with your peers is a good way of staying connected within the wider legal industry and might well lead to referrals in the future, or other networking opportunities for you.

3. Host a Q&A event 

Another way to utilize social media to your advantage while the holiday is running is to conduct free, virtual events or Q&A sessions. Platforms such as Facebook Live or Instagram Stories are popular mediums. Or think about using Twitter to deliver a live Q&A “Tweet-Out” where users can ask you questions and you tweet your reply - if you are camera shy! And you can use the trending hashtag #LoveYourLawyerDay. 

LinkedIn is now also getting in on the action with two new tools! LinkedIn Stories works a little like Instagram Stories. It can help you to boost your exposure online. Sharing Stories can be an easy way to share your insights and experiences, and to build meaningful relationships with your professional community.
